This setting sun transformed into several shapes in just a minute including that of a cross as it passed over St. Clement’s Island. This island was the site of the landing of the colonists who settled Maryland on March 25, 1634. When the hardy souls who had arrived after a three-month winter voyage from the Isle of Wight in England, Father Andrew White gave thanks in the first Catholic Mass said in the English speaking colonies.
